2024 Autumn Night Run

A surprisingly warm afternoon and evening drew many members to one of our most popular events of the year, the night run. We started early and were all busy by lunch time. Work was done on the site, organised by Glenis and Colin and assisted by Ian, Phil and Dave.

Mike and Eric set up the lighting for the evening. Every year the lights get better and better and this year the lighting was particularly impressive.

The chips were delicious as always and by the time they were cleared up it had started to get dark. Amazingly, for the end of October, the temperature didn't drop much and members didn't need all of the thermals they had packed. A terrific evening was had by all and some great photos taken.

Elliot and Glen took the photos.

Some of these photos, in high quality, may also be seen on other BGRA Social Media Sites.

Track powered and live steam, Tom does it all, but be warned, don't spread muck on the 45mm after Tom has cleaned it.

Lots of Locos and train sets appeared through the day and though there was plethora of diesels there was a good turn out of live steam.

John's green Funkey Diesel based on the W.H.R. Castell Caernarfon was particularly attractive. A metal kit built onto cleverly modified Roundhouse bogies, it was so lovely that we all forgot to take photos. Sorry John.

Boys love playing with water and if they have a decent length of hose then it is really heavenly.

There's always something that needs attention on our layout. Today it's the water butt. Popular for the soft water our locos need, it had been causing some damage to the base of the cabin.

Perhaps due to the amount of recent rain, we decided it needed an upgraded overflow. Colin and Phil get to grips with the solution.

Darkness falls. Illuminated trains run. Track becomes very atmospheric. Head torches are switched on. Thankfully it wasn't cold it was just the perfect night run.

Elliot finds the Need for Speed irresistible...

...for once, it's not him that's speeding...

Elliot's photo

... a great attempt to capture some speed in the camera and not on photoshop.

Using very little extra light, a good photo of Mike's Jenny.
